:OOOOOO

Terribly mixed :O Kick is much too soft... And everything is peaking as hell!

Song itself is not bad... but I'm not able to listen to it properly...

Well, 6/10, 3/5

Mjattie

A bit too much echo on the piano perhaps? :P

It sounds a bit muddy like this. It's really trancy you know xD and I like the drums (as usally). Strings are OK. The clap fills are nice xD, but the echo behind those on 1:38 are not in sync. Melodies are OK. I like the synth at 2:30. Bass is nice. Kick has a bit too much bass --> maybe put it louder and cut the last bit of the sample off, so that you keep the high tones and leave the low tones behind.

Not bad, but a bit lazy mixing xD

Airprogressive responds:

hahahah thanks mjattie!

it's not classical now is it :O

I though that this would be a classical/movie-theme-kinda song, but as I hear now, it proves me wrong! Dnb/dubstep/glitch/classical-kinda song :O I love it! The glitchy instruments really make it sound quite unique!

Certainly 5/5, 10/10 and a download!

MWA (Mjattie) (I'd be pleased if you'd listen to my newest song --> Out of Control, which is a sort of ambient/house song :))

nubbinownz responds:

Listened, loved it :D Thank you for the review man :D

what a progression

I'm really fond of the piano and the violins also sound very nice. :) the drums, though, do not seem to impress me. I like the guitar alike sounding in the background at the louder parts and the envolving bass before those parts! Great progression you've got here since your last song, it's promising. By the way, Did I hear reverb? :P

Great job, nothing else to say ;)

10/10, 5/5,

I know that what you sent me 5/6 months ago :P

I didn't know what to do, because it's YOUR piece and now you finished I'm happy that I didn't help you with it. You surely did a nice thing! I must say, that I like the beginning the most of all, but that's just a matter of taste.

Good things:
I really like the piano melody (in beginning especially), violin, cymbals, high pitched background synths, drum highpassing, drum fills.

Tips: Buy a (Midi) keyboard and really let yourself going with real played notes: you'll certainly hear difference! Though, I still don't know how the hell you do it now; let it sound this realistic without a keyboard...
I'd delete the last note of this piece xD I like the semi out of tune note and when you "play" the last note, the C, it feels... argh... don't know how to say, just not really right.

Drums: I think they sound too plain, or it's just the fact that I (and you) have used them too often: the "reason rock kits". You could try to pick a electronic kit, but that's totally up to you (off course)

These "tips" are just nitpicking and I think you really did a nice job!

ObsidianSnow responds:

lol yeah, I remember when I sent this to you for help. I thought for a while that it would end up sitting on my computer and never being released, but here it is.

XD I thought that last note would kill you inside. It does that to me a little bit, too. It's a little too easily resolved that way... which, unfortunately, is the symbolism I was aiming for. Sorry, bud. The note of ear-death must stay.

Yeah, I'm really hoping I can let loose with an actual keyboard one of these days. Still don't have the cash, though. As for how I do it without one... let's just say it takes a crapload of time, and I'm really, really picky. Just wait till you hear BTS, which is done with the exception of an effect that requires me to take a recording of a very busy friend. I've never been so picky with the sound before.

lol I hate the drums a bit, too. Maybe I should have gone with glitch or something... Meh, it's done now, and I probably won't end up fixing it (unless someone commissions a redux of it). I'll keep it in mind for next time.

Thanks a lot, bud - I always do appreciate your reviews!

wow

When the vocals popped in, everything fitted perfectly. I recognise the violin section of nn-xt and the glitch kits of redrum xD (that's not bad I use them also a lot). But I really love this song, whow!!! Great vocals but that bass is just a bit too "in your face" for my meanings.

Great song though, 5/5, 10/10, download, favourite!

SilentSeraph responds:

thanks for that :D good call on the NNxt and glitch kit too. I will admit, I mastered this on my laptop speakers and didnt change the mix from the other part of the orchestration figuring it would all still mix well. I wish I'd increased the vox channel though, but I did a live recording/effects automation run, so it only exists as a WAV file X(

reminds me of yann tiersen

Piano playing is a bit arrhythmical. Piano itself is nice.

Overal song is muddy. That's a shame, it started so nicely but then those drums aren't really fitting, so is the flute. Bassplaying is too spastic (at least after ± 2 min... That's a shame...

Average song though...

siike92 responds:

Yeah I'm not really a Piano player so some of this was rather difficult for me. Especially the middle part, and that part is still really off timing.

As for the muddyness, the quote from the movie(Jacob's Ladder) was,

"Eckhart saw hell too. He said "the only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you," he said. "They're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth.""

In Jacob's Ladder, Jake holds on and and sees the devils tearing his life apart. I wanted this song to represent the confusion and the process of dieing and struggling to hold on to life. I don't really know if that justifies it, but I think it accurately portrays the idea. But yeah, thanks for the review man. Your critisism is much appreciated.

emotional

The good:
Good use of those strings, sound really emotional. (0+10=10)

How to improve:
-add reverb to all instruments for a more live played feeling (10-1=9)
-drums sound a bit unreal, you could try to put some tape distortion on it. (9-1=8)
-everything sounds a bit unrythmic, like you've not played with metronome (8-1=7)
-ending is abrupt (7-1=6)

Not bad though,

3/5, 6/10

knetter3 responds:

Thanx for the review

I'm still learning about all the posibilities my software has, so it will ever get better, thanks for the good advices!

really potential

I just love the combination of the drums with the bass. Really good and nice leads and so on, just a bit poor mixed --> lead is overpowering sometimes ;)

200% better than almost all the shit that's uploaded here!!! :)

If it was longer, download and favourite, but now just 5/5 and 10/10...

Gr MW-Audio (Mjattie) You should check my trancy tracks :)

combatplayer responds:

thanks dude =D it is still a beta preview and it will become longer.. some day atleast xD.

i made it in the demo and worked arround 3 hours straight on it so i were runing a little tired in the end. but when i get the full vertion and can put more efford into it then i shurly will :]

and about your music. i alredy know lots of it. ur name isent new to me ^_~

keep up your work and thanks for the review. :]

nice progression of chords and song

But the snare is very loud and so are the hi-hats. And the drums are quite plain and standard. Bass sounds also quite standard and sometimes the melodies collide.

Nonetheless, it's a good song.

I'd correct those things, and then you'll get my 10/10 and 5/5 ;)
